The company Somaplast (short for Société Maine Plastiques) was founded back in 1962 in Ambrières Les Vallées (a town in Mayenne, North-West France).
Fast-forward nearly 60 years, and the Maine Plastiques brand is still going from strength to strength on the same site (along with two new sites in Le Mans and Perrignier), where it has a 140-strong workforce liaising with the Group’s other brands.
To cater to its expanding business, the company bought up Peillex Plastiques in Haute-Savoie (in the French Alps) in 1997. Today, the Perrignier site in Haute-Savoie performs extrusion for the Maine Plastiques and Maine Peillex brands.
This commitment to safeguard the local economy has been one of the Group’s founding principles from the outset.
Not only that, but in light of the industry-wide duty today to acknowledge the vulnerability of our fossil fuels, Maine Plastiques endeavours to recycle and recover used plastics.
